Brief Introduction to Rockwell Hardness Testers

2022-05-05

Rockwell hardness tester is suitable for the hardness determination of various metal materials. Its test principle is to press the indenter on the surface of the sample under the action of the initial test force F0 and the total test force F successively, remove the main test force F1, and measure the residual depth h of the indentation at the initial test force. Commonly used hardness testers include Rockwell hardness tester, Vickers hardness tester, digital Rockwell hardness tester, Brinell hardness tester, etc.
1. Classifications and applications of Rockwell hardness testers: According to the material of the indenter and the load applied to the indenter, the Rockwell hardness can be divided into: HRA, HRB, HRC. HRA is suitable for measuring cemented carbide, surface quenched layer or carburized layer; HRB is suitable for measuring non-ferrous metals and annealed, normalized steel, etc.; HRC is suitable for quenched and tempered steel, quenched steel, etc.;
2. The advantages of Rockwell hardness testers: simple operation, small indentation, wide application range;
3. The disadvantages of Rockwell hardness testers: the dispersion of the measurement results is large.
